Paul Devon Young has been designing and building some experimental kilns, built with a modified version of the traditional cob mixes.
Made by altering the ratio of certain ingredients and adding a variety of new ones, by adding Refractory clays, Granite clays, Grogs sand and also replacing the traditional straw with dry Bracken-Fern.
Paul has completed three large kilns which have fired the next generation of ceramic pieces.
This collection includes, three large freestanding kiln, six large freestanding sculptures, Cob batch Mixes and Bricks and Aquatic cobology sculpture's
Paul calls this method and practice M.C.M , modified cob mixes and is the founder of this new sculptural clay.. with specific ratios Paul as refined the m.c.m batches for most types of firing the works from course medium and fine mixes , in a vast range of pigments all from the Devon landscape..
alongside this Paul as been making charcoal the traditional way to fire is works from old fallen trees which is a higher temperature than the traditional wood firing…
