Paintings

Cosmic Surfaces by Paul Devon Young

My paintings are born from a deep fascination with colour, texture, and material. I approach them the way I approach sculpture—tactile, layered, and dimensional.

Each piece is hand-framed, constructed from scratch, and built to feel raw, elemental, and grounded. I often mix physical materials—earth, grit, pigment—directly into the paint, giving the surface a sculptural presence that pushes beyond the flat plane.

Inspired by cosmology, deep space, and the unknown, my work explores the vastness of the universe through form and colour. These paintings are not just visual—they are landscapes of energy, time, and matter.

"I don’t see a line between painting and sculpture. The canvas is a surface, but also a terrain—something to excavate."
